Two months ago we found a sweet flight deal from Toronto to Spain. In our short time there, we traveled through a few cities along the South.
DAY 1 · Barcelona
Flight from Toronto - Munich - Barcelona
Great location (Gothic Quarter) and balcony looking out on to the church + plaza. Room was spacious, had private bathrooms, and host was cool.
Casa del Pi Private double room
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain  ·   154
Bodega Biarritz
Cozy, authentic spot for tapas. Tell the server how many tapas you'd like and let her pick for you.

DAY 2 · Barcelona
La Boqueria
Busy market with good vibes. The tapas and juices are mediocre but look great and are cheap.
9.3 on Foursquare
Baluard Barceloneta
Super busy inside. Get the almond croissants.
9.4 on Foursquare
Sagrada Familia
Buy your tickets online before getting here. Then walk over to the entrance on the back side. After taking the elevator up to the tower, you'll have to walk down the narrow stairs. Really cool.

Casa Batllo
Neat Gaudi architecture. Just stand and observe from the outside, not worth going in.
9.5 on Foursquare
The croquettes are good but the place is cramped and overpriced.

DAY 3 · Valencia
Train from Barcelona to Valencia
Barcelona Sants - Valencia Joaquin Sorolla. Overall, Valencia is really dirty and would not recommend visiting here.
Palacio Reina Victoria
Airbnb let us down in Valencia so we scrambled to find a hotel. This place is a gem. Was the highlight of the city for us.

Mercat Central
Decent market, not as good as the one in Barcelona though.

Horchateria Santa Catalina
Try the horchata with a farton. Horchatas are like a Spanish milkshake made with almond milk. Tasted like chalk to me but the experience is interesting.
8.2 on Foursquare
Playa de la Malvarrosa
Don't try to walk across the city to the beach. We did and it was like walking through a ghetto. The beach itself is nice, like any urban beach.

DAY 4 · Seville
Train from Valencia to Seville
Valencia Joaquin Sorolla - Sevilla Santa Justa
Best Airbnb on this trip. It's a cozy B&B in a rustic building right beside the Royal Alcazar.
Restoring a 500 year house room 3
Sevilla, Andalucia, Spain  ·   50
Plaza de Espana
The most elaborate square in Spain. Gets really hot out here so go in the evening.
9.6 on Foursquare
Real Alcazar de Sevilla
Really nice Alcazar (and park) in the heart of the city. Don't forget to visit the highly ornate Seville Cathedral steps away.
9.5 on Foursquare
Bodega Santa Cruz Las Columnas
This place had the best tapas with a very convivial atmosphere. Bartenders were always laughing. Overall best tapas experience we've had. Highly recommend.
8.9 on Foursquare
Museo del Baile Flamenco
Amazing Flamenco performance. Buy tickets online and get there 15 mins early for front row seats.
9.3 on Foursquare
Los Coloniales
Los Coloniales only comes second to the place we visited earlier (Bodega Santa Cruz). Try the solomillo a la castellana and the huevo de codorniz.

DAY 5 · Granada
Train from Seville to Granada
Sevilla Santa Justa - Almeria (bus) - Granada. Granada doesn't have a train line so they stop the train at Almeria and everyone hops on a bus.
It was difficult to find a really good Airbnb in Granada. This place was right across from the square and the host was really nice. Shared bathrooms though.
Granada, Andalusia, Spain  ·   259
Heladeria Tiggiani
Ice cream was sublime. Try all the flavors.
8.4 on Foursquare
Mirador de San Nicolas
Hike up to the top of the Albaicin around dusk to get an amazing view of the Alhambra at night. Lots of gypsies, street flamenco dancers, and musicians along the way. Skip the touristy restaurants at the top.
9.6 on Foursquare
Restaurante Arrayanes
Good moroccan food but was overpriced and didn't feel authentic.

DAY 6 · The Alhambra
La Alhambra
Get a glimpse into the historic religious architecture and the Arab culture. The garden has amazing views. Bring water and set aside half the day. Buy your tickets online before getting here.
9.5 on Foursquare
Saint Germain
Neat place. Every tapas spot in Granada gives you free tapas with drinks so don't worry about the menu.

DAY 7 · Madrid
Bus from Granada to Madrid
Estacion de Autobus Granada - Estacion Sur Madrid
Really modern inside and across the street from the park.
Piso agradable rodeado de arte
Madrid, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain  ·   112
Mercado de San Miguel
Gourmet market with loads of bakeries and tapas.
9.3 on Foursquare
Chocolateria San Gines
This place is a churro institution. Must visit when in Madrid.
